The Autostadt is a visitor attraction in the area around the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germany, with a prime focus on automobiles. It features a museum, feature pavilions for each manufacturer in the Volkswagen Group, a customer centre where German customers can pick up new cars and take a tour through the enormous factory, a guide to the evolution of roads and cinema in a large sphere. It is also home to the largest glass doors in the world and the longest printed line. The line starts from outside Wolfsburg and travels through Autostadt to a point on a farm. [edit] People, cars and what moves them

What motivates people to excel? What lies concealed beneath the bonnet of a car? And who will determine the economy of the future? The Autostadt invites its visitors to journey into the world of mobility. 25 hectares of rolling hills and lakes together with extraordinary architecture and design form the background to the numerous and multi-facetted Autostadt attractions. An exhibition of the definitive car classics allows a view into the past; artworks and films stimulate discussion; interactive research stations offer opportunities for experimentation; and exciting productions, like the Movimentos Festival Weeks and the Themenkommunikation, excite the imagination. For every visitor: their very own unique, and individual kaleidoscopic experience. With its emphasis on responsibility towards humankind, the diversity of the Autostadt mirrors the broad orientation that defines the Volkswagen Group. For this reason the art-lover, high-tech enthusiast and even tourists passing by, will find themselves at home here. The Autostadt adopts the values of the Volkswagen Group and brings them to life: quality ensures safety, achievement and sustainability go hand in hand, and customer service is uppermost. It also reflects knowledge generated in other parts of the world and the different philosophies which underlie each individual brand. As communications platform of the Volkswagen Group, the Autostadt is the interface between customer and global company. The emphasis is not on the ‚quick fix‘, but on the intensive exploration of the many facets of mobility. The Autostadt stands for a culture of business that lays particular emphasis on superior service and exacting standards. The multilingual staff work together with one aim in mind: to give visitors an experience they won‘t forget.

[edit] Collecting the new car

The only way is up! Soon to be owners of a brand new Volkswagen take an escalator from the main entrance, or Piazza, up into the Abholerwelt (check-in area for Volkswagen customers). At 23 service stations, customer-service agents answer questions, explain vehicle delivery and recommend what to see in the Autostadt, based on customer-interests.

The next steps in the procedure are automatic: a lift in one of the CarTowers selects the correct vehicle and conveys it to the centre of the tower from where it is gently lowered to the ground floor. Thereafter the new car rolls through a tunnel into the Car Distribution Centre. This elliptic building has a transparent, floating roof, under which two restaurants, a simulator and a shop are grouped around a lively square.

This is where, a large display panel indicates the collecting customer‘s name, the hand-over begins. Not long after the keys to the new vehicle are handed to the new owner…
